After a 10 year haitus, I recently stumbled upon dolling again. I followed a retired doll artist (@fiona_Creates, formerly known as Pyrochan) on Instagram the other day, which led me down a rabbit hole. I began scrolling through my old Photobucket account and searching through websites on Wayback Machine... With that being said, I'm so happy to have rediscovered this fun hobby, but also sad to see how much the community has dwindled.
While, I'm sure there are a million reasons why our community has vastly diminished over time, I cannot help but feel overwhelmingly grateful that I got to experience it at its peak. I discovered dolling back in 2007, when I was 10 years old and severely bullied in school. I didn't have any friends, and was struggling to find hobbies that fulfilled me. When I entered the dolling community, my life turned around. I discovered a passion that allowed me to enjoy a life that was awful every time I stepped away from the computer. Thank you all for keeping this community alive while so many of us have fallen off the boat.
I'd love to hear your responses to the following prompts...
When did you discover dolling, and what does it mean to you? What was the first forum you joined? What other forums were you a part of? Did you ever create your own website? If so, what was it called? What were your favorite websites/creators? Did you ever participate in pageants? If so, which were your favorites? Are you a part of any other dolling communities outside Pixel Lounge? If so, which ones?

When did you discover dolling, and what does it mean to you? See initial post... (tldr: in 2007; it was my escape from bullying)
What was the first forum you joined? What other forums were you a part of? Xandorra's forum, The Gathering, was my first. I quickly joined Fairytopia after that and found great joy and community there. This was around the time that Eden Enchanted was shutting down, and there was in influx of new users at Fairytopia. After Fairytopia shut down, I moved to Pixel-Glam, which was hot stuff for a while! Now I am here, after a 10 year hiatus.
Did you ever create your own website? If so, what was it called? My first website was called Black Rose Dollery and was hosted by yahoo's geo-cities. I then moved to webs.com and created the website Dolly Pop and penned the username DPDevon (which was a horrible idea, in retrospect). I eventually got hosted by an admin from Fairytopia and created the website "Elissar's Isle," before eventually moving everything to deviant art.
What were your favorite websites/creators? I have a special place in my heart for Xandorra, DHF, and Pyrochan. I learned a ton from all of them.
Did you ever participate in pageants? If so, which were your favorites? I remember submitting dolls to a Mythological God pageant, a Harry Potter Pageant, and a Fantasy Pageant. I followed the original Next Top Doll very closely, and loved seeing everyone's submissions for Miss Doll Europe and Miss Doll Fantasy. I'm obviously biased... but my ultimate favorite pageant was Miss Doll Sith 2009, which I created and ran with Suzy of DHF. I was 12 at the time, and had horrible time management skills, so it ended up being a mess... but it was an amazing experience, regardless.
Are you a part of any other dolling communities outside Pixel Lounge? If so, which ones? None! I just made a Deviant Art again, but probably won't use it anytime soon. I also have an Instagram (@evilplasma), but I am only posting photography and occasional study sketches.

When did you discover dolling, and what does it mean to you? 2003 or so, used to play around with dollmakers such as The Doll Palace, etc. It was my first foray into digital art, so it means a lot to me.
What was the first forum you joined? What other forums were you a part of? Pixel Glam was my first. The Gathering and some others I cannot remember the names of. I was pretty much a member of all of the forums back in the day.
Did you ever create your own website? If so, what was it called? I can't actually remember my first dolling website name, it's been THAT long.
What were your favorite websites/creators? DHF, Pyrochan, and Silindor
Did you ever participate in pageants? If so, which were your favorites? Nope, too chicken to enter (didn't think I was good enough)
Are you a part of any other dolling communities outside Pixel Lounge? If so, which ones? Just this one as it's the only active one I am aware of.
First of all glad to see you again, I think I remember you a bit. If you're interested in finding old sites I have a page dedicated to links of old and dead sites, on my site.
When did you discover dolling, and what does it mean to you? Around 2006-07 I don't remember if that's really when I got into it though.
What was the first forum you joined? What other forums were you a part of? The Gathering, I think there was another but my memory is lacking. I got onto GLAM! At some later point too.
Did you ever create your own website? If so, what was it called? Lolita's Locket. And it was on various free website builders til eventually my site got frozen due to bases being too close to nudity and I gave up on sites for a while but now have a new one called Etheriin Sin Dena.
What were your favorite websites/creators? DHF, it was the first I found, and I found it because of the dollmakers it had. Pyrochan will always be close to my heart. Fainelloth, Selenit Tower, Aurenne's, The Daft Empire, Isodel who went by something else later but I can't remember what, and a thousand others I miss.
Did you ever participate in pageants? If so, which were your favorites? I tried to do every pageant I could find, failed to get into some, others I did alright in. Battle Royale was fun, Miss Doll International was fun, I liked The Character Pageant I think it was called.
Are you a part of any other dolling communities outside Pixel Lounge? If so, which ones? Just GLAM! Which seems to have slowed down a lot.
