Small brass eyelets were scattered over top the soft beige lace laid out on the wooden shop desk. Light pouring in the window from the afternoon sunlight reflected off of the eyelets, creating glimmers on the wooden ceiling.

The room was a fair size, with cabinets and desks lining three of the walls. An antique looking car was parked in the middle of the room. It was black and had a long rectangular body with intricate metalwork around the windows, tires and grilles. Small golden feathers lined the bottom edge of the car body. The wheel rims were large ornate gears. The car had a hood ornament shaped like a compass that seemed like it had been shined and polished for hours.

The interior of the car was just as beautiful as the outside. The seats were a dark brown leather with beige stitching. Not a single stitch was out of place. The dark wood dashboard had decorative gold inlays of roses, leaves and thorny vines. The middle of the steering wheel had a gold compass in the middle, similar to the hood ornament. There wasn’t a spec of dirt anywhere in the car.

The hum of the engine whirred, sputtering frequently. Miley rolled themself out from under the car. They wiped their hands off on their pants and pulled the googles off of their face onto their head. Dirty made outlines around where the goggles had been. Miley reached into the car and turned the car off. Tools littered the ground around where they had been laying. Miley gathered the tools and hung them on a tool rack above the shop desk. They paused to look over the brass eyelets and lace that were on the desk. “I really need to finish this for Berry.” They said quietly to themselves.

Now that the engine had been turned off, the sound of a clock ticking on the wall could be heard. Looking up at the clock, Miley realized they had been working in the shop all afternoon. “Ah, where’s Berry? Surely she would have come poking at me to come in for dinner by now.” Miley wondered outloud.

...There was a sudden dimming of lights and cut to the eerie music that had been playing in the background. A slow roll of drums started and began to pick up speed. A hush to the crowd was almost immediate as the anticipation built up.

Rays attention was instantly grabbed and he looked so excited. For a moment it looked as if he'd forgotten about Tasha, but snapped himself out of it and turned back towards her. "She's what?" He asked in a whisper.

Tasha signed and and motioned towards the main stage. As she sighed, a low and chilly breeze sort of spread from her. "We'll talk after. This first."

Before Ray could double check, a cackle of laughter consumed the tent. A gentle hiss of fog machines could be heard as the floor began to disappear under a thick smoke. A shadowy figure emerged from door Tasha had been in and out of so briefly. People were squinting to get a good look before a bright spot light came on over him. The full extent of his costume was revealed in a rich display of stripes, polkadots, purple and gold. The ring master had revealed himself as the show opener; a tall and skinny man that could demand a presence. He wore dark, clunky heels that had a gold plated, pointed toe. They had buckles and laces to the ankles. He wore deep purple and black horizontal striped tights under a pinstriped, calf length pant. There were various embellishments along the edges of the pants in a dull gold. He wore a leathery, banned military jacket with coattails that almost touched the floor. The sleeves had buckles from the shoulder to the wrist, which then flared out to reveal a bright purple jacket lining. Similarly to the short bald man, the jacket also had an elaborate shoulder pad detail - however they were not as long or feathery. They seemed to feature small skulls, jewels and chains. The ring masters goatee had been oiled and slicked back with a purple dye. His eyebrows seemed to be flared outwards using the same dye. The man had a long face with bulging eyes. His nose was huge and had a large scar across it. To top the whole look off he had a top hat with bright purple feathers and embroidery around the base.

The ring master danced around the exterior of the ring, eyeing the crowd and moving erratically. He scampered and hoped back to the middle of the stage. The movements stopped suddenly as he stood tall and extended both arms to either side of him. Sparkles began to shoot out around him. He slowly walked in small circles and used the light from the sparkles to cast weird shadows on his face. The spot light dimmed. Dark, shadowy figures seemed to appear from no where and circle around the ring master in the opposite direction. They started spread out and around the outside, but came closer together as they moved inward. Low, quiet humming got louder. The drums picked up. The sparkles from the ring masters had expanded and burned brighter. He lifted his arms up and as he did so, the humming and the drum beats got deafeningly loud.

The ring master grinned and snapped his hands in towards his body. All music stopped and the sparks died down. The lights turned off completely again and the crowd was left in complete darkness and silence.

An eerie, low pitched and grumbling voice rang out: "This is... Dr. ScrewEyes Carnival!"

Light, sparks and fire suddenly erupted from the ring masters hand. The music clashed together at the same loudness it had been before and the Ring Master began to spin in circles. His feet began to rise from the ground and the sparkles poured out around him. He cackled, spun faster and rose into the air. The ring master seemed to fly around the outside of the ring over the crowd before slowing down in front of the backstage door. He shot sparks out all around the ring into the sand. "Ladies and gentlemen! I now present... The Illusionist."

Once again the lights, sound and Ring Master disappeared. The crowd broke out into a low clap and cheers. The anticipation had been built for the next act.
